## From forest to Belgium
It all starts in the sustainably managed forests of the Azores in Portugal, where Cryptomeria japonica trees are felled according to strict FSC guidelines. For every tree felled, new trees are planted, ensuring a circular and sustainable wood supply.
## The burning process
Once in our workshop in Schellebelle, the wood undergoes a careful transformation. The traditional Yakisugi burning process creates a protective carbon layer that protects the wood for decades against weather and wind.
## End result
The end result is a beautiful, deep black facade with a unique craquelé texture. The villa in Antwerp is now an eye-catcher in the street, with a facade that only gets more beautiful over the years.
